OZtrail Know Canvas. The smell of canvas evokes great childhood memories for generations of campers. It's the traditional material of the campsite and is sure to stay that way for generations to come.
Whether it's the freedom you feel rolling out your swag in the middle of nowhere, of the comfort and space you enjoy in your camper trailer, there's nothing like canvas.
OZtrail push for improvements in everything they do and have taken the traditional canvas and updated it with fresh ideas and technology so that those childhood memories of goods times in canvas are there for the next generation.
Traditional designs with cutting edge materials
Canvas has come a very long way in performance over the last few years thanks to modern processes and materials. OZtrail's latest SatProof 600+ & SatProof 800+ canvas is a perfect example of the development that's taken place. Used throughout the OZtrail cabin tent and trailer tent range it consistently outperforms other materials.
SatProof 600+ Canvas - Walls / Inner
The latest evolution in canvas, SatProof 600+ uses a saturation waterproofing agent rather than a top layer treatment like other inferior materials. SatProof 600+ Ripstop Canvas is a 340gsm blended cotton canvas. An anti-mildew water proofing agent is saturated througout the canvas before manufacture so even after wear and tear it will still provide a waterproof barrier. SatProof 600+ Canvas offers a minimum of 600mm hydrostatic water head creating a waterproof canvas that still minimises condensation buildup. The structure of cotton allows water vapour molecules to pass through and at the same time provide a barrier to water droplets.
SatProof 800+ Canvas - Roof
SatProof 800+ Ripstop Canvas is a 340gsm blended cotton canvas. This stronger fabric is treated further to provide 800mm hydrostatic water head and maintains the same level of breathability. The fabric is rolled under pressure to accept a silver coating that blocks out more than 98% of UV radiation and heat. The technology used in this protective coating has been developed to provide a level of finish never seen before in a canvas product.
Conditioning your Canvas
It is vitally important that you season your canvas when it's new and also after long periods of storage so it gives its best performance. Simply pitch your tent and wet it down with a garden hose. This enables the stitching holes to shrink around the thread of the stitch lines and the cotton in the canvas to swell. Let the canvas dry completely before repeating two or three times.
Tips and traditional first aid for canvas products
Even though you may have seasoned your canvas, sometimes you can miss a spot or seam. An age old remedy if this happens is to carry a clear wax candle with you when you go camping. If you do notice a seam has not been seasoned properly, simply rub the candle on the exterior of the stitch line. This will create a waterproof barrier quickly and easily.
If cared for correctly, your OZtrail canvas will still be around for the next generation of campers to enjoy.
